William Tasman, MD
Dr. William Tasman founded Mid Atlantic Retina, formerly Retinovitreous Associates, Ltd. in 1974. Since 1985 he has also been Ophthalmologist-in-Chief of Wills Eye Hospital, Philadelphia, PA. In that position, he has been responsible for training 161 residents and 199 retinal fellows. Dr. Tasman had his residency at Wills Eye Hospital, followed by a retinal fellowship at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Hospital, in Boston, under the late Dr Charles Schepens. Dr. Tasman is Board Certified in Ophthalmology and a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons.
Dr. Tasman is a member, and past president of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Ophthalmological Society, the Retina Society and the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is a founding member of the Retina Society and Club Jules Gonin Retina Society and is a member of the Pennsylvania Academy of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology, College of Physicians, Pan American Association of Ophthalmology, the Macula Society and the American Medical Association. He also serves on the Foundation Board of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He has held numerous offices in various ophthalmic academic societies and has served on national committees. He has been on the Board of Directors of the American Diabetes Foundation and a medical advisor for the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.
Dr. Tasman has published extensively and, until 2013, served as Editor for Duane's Clinical Ophthalmology . He has previously served as editor for Survey of Ophthalmology , been on the editorial board of Ophthalmic Society and a section editor for Key Ophthalmology . He has presented papers most recently at annual meetings of the American Ophthalmological Society, The Retina Society, American Academy of Ophthalmology, International Congress of Ophthalmology, Hawaii Ophthalmological Society, North Dakota Academy of Ophthalmology, 1st Arab Ophthalmic Societies Conference, International Congress of Ophthalmology and The Fundacion Oftalmologica Argentina. He has been named one of “America's Top Docs”, and Philadelphia Magazine named Dr. Tasman “One of the Top Docs”.
