Rep. Larry Bucshon
Congressman Larry Bucshon, M.D., represents the 8th District of Indiana. First elected to the House of Representatives in 2010, Bucshon currently serves as a senior member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, including as vice chair of the Health Subcommittee.
Since his election to Congress, Bucshon has been a champion for advancing patient-centered healthcare reforms that support innovation and give patients access to high-quality, affordable and timely care — while also ensuring that patients and their doctors have the freedom to make their own healthcare decisions.
Bucshon received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and his medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Chicago. He completed a residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin, and remained there to complete a fellowship. During this time, Bucshon enlisted with the United States Navy Reserve and served for almost a decade before being honorably discharged.
Bucshon was a practicing physician and surgeon specializing in cardiothoracic surgery. During his time in private practice, Bucshon performed hundreds of heart surgeries and served as president of Ohio Valley HeartCare. His outstanding work and leadership in this field led to him being honored as the St. Mary’s Medical Staff Physician of the Year in 2006. Bucshon also served as chief of cardiothoracic surgery and medical director of the open heart recovery intensive care unit at St. Mary’s Hospital. During his time in practice, Bucshon was board certified in cardiothoracic surgery by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.
