Catherine Liao
Co-founder & CEO
Blumio
Catherine Liao is a technologist and an entrepreneur. Her passion is in using technology to solve unmet needs, and believes that intuition, hustle, and know-how are the trifecta to success. Catherine got her start at the age of 19, as a systems engineer for one of the first Internet conferencing services in the 90s. That eventually led her to the World Health Organization where she was responsible for scaling WHO's web infrastructure during SARS, where at the peak of the epidemic, the demand grew by 20x overnight to over 14 million/hits a day. She is now the CEO of Blumio, a medical devices startup building a wearable sensor that can measure blood pressure. The successful commercialization of the technology will open a brand-new window into our understanding of cardiovascular health.
Prior to Blumio, Catherine spent a decade working with some of the world's largest enterprises on leveraging technology to drive business outcomes. At Cisco, she supported the commercialization of technologies that ensured speedy performance for business-critical applications, including the timely transmission of medical images so that medical decisions can be made without delays. A Riverbed, she led a solutions marketing team and was responsible for the go-to-market strategy of Riverbed's application performance platform.
Catherine holds an MBA from Imperial College London and is active in the startup community. As an Executive Mentor for Santa Cruz Accelerates and a Program Lead for the Startup Leadership Program, she provides guidance and mentorship to other entrepreneurs. In her downtime, you'll likely find Catherine at her favorite wine bar where she is an investor and the chief glass washer.
